My mother in law has broken the battery door on her hearing aid is being charged 560.00 to repair it. This is minus a "170.00 building discount" because she lives in a assisted living complex. So if she did not live in this building I guess the total would have been over $700.00!!!

I feel like this company is taking advantage of senior citizens!!

Does anyone know what the usual and customary amount would be for this type of hearing aid repair!

Her aid is a type that is molded to her ear as is Siemens Brand.

Location: Champlin, Minnesota

My husband is an independent hearing aid dispenser and he replaces battery doors for free, not only for our clients, but goes to assisted living centers to clean and service hearing aids. So sorry this industry is has it's share of greedy, crooked practitioners and it is hard to separate them from the good ones.

@Kugie.....I'm a hearing aid dispenser (38 years)....and don't charge my patients for battery doors, unless the case (or faceplate) is broken, I live in WI, but probably have met your husband if he's a member of the AZ Hearing aid ***. (I have worked in AZ)...The biggest offenders are the "big-box" stores, and are really not the fault of the poor ***, who works there....G-d bless you, we are among the lowest paid health care providers, and most of us really care about our patients....Shalom !

My Ma just paid $3300 for "discounted" new Siemens hearing aids from the Beltone store.

Luckily enough they had a 90 return and Ma took them back.

We got brand hearing pod aids for $400 on their site.

She says they work as good as the others and she saved so much.

I want to see what kind of exotic vehicles those fat cats at Beltone drive with their profits.

We could all be comfortable fat cats in an equal system where people are paid as equals.

??????? Beltone sells Beltone, not Siemens.....good luck getting the website to service your mom's "pod"

I was quoted $300 to replace a door. Youtube has a good video on how to replace and the demonstrator says that he gives the battery doors away. Can't find the darn things on line though.

I would like to respond to the complaint regarding lady being charged for being charged 560.00 to repair a broken battery door on her hearing aid. When a door is attached to a hearing aid its simple to replace the door when it breaks off.

The problem is when the hinge that holds on the door is broken from the face plate of the aid. IF it is programmable hearing aid then the faceplate of the the would have to be replace. This is were the cost is higher. The good thing is when the faceplate it replaced that means all parts are replaced and the hearing aid is now back to new internally.

The complex may have a discount program for their tentants with the company providing the services.

When a hearing aid is replated it is common for the cost to be somewhere from 580.00 to 990.00. I hope this would be helpful for the family member.

TAke your money and run! RUN FOREST, RUN!!!

I am sure there are better places out there that would love to have your business most often at no cost for the first visit. Good luck!

These people are ripping you off and taking your money. Please go to a Doctor of Audiology, they have 8 years of education and are the best trained to take care of your hearing.

To be a hearing aid dispense in most states you need to have only a high school diploma, no STD'S and pass a basic test. Why would you trust your hearing with these *** artistes? Would you go to a some random person to rehab your vision or a knee?

NO, these people do not care for your hearing healthcare. Doctors of Audiology or Audiologists will find the right options the first time and save you thousands of dollars.

I've worked in the industry for 38 years, most of the really BAD fittings I've seen were from "Doctors of Audiology"....I have an MS, I've dispensed, manufactured, trained, in private practice, and clinical practice, in my experience a BC-HIS, is as competent as anyone...SORRY...but someone who has fit, and lived with 1000's of fittings, and only gets paid when the patient is happy, is who I'll send my friends, and family to, every time......

I've had a few broken hearing aid doors over the years, but they have always been replaced at no charge.

I'd look for a different hearing aid provider, a good one will likely replace it for free just to get your future business. Complete replacement of a $2500 hearing aid has cost me about $200 or less.

audibelscammed me in Vegas here one day gone the next.

they should not be charging anything for a batt door

Guest

In my practice if the patient was fit with the device by me there is no charge, if not it cost no more $5 most time fix as courtesy.

Guest

Wow that's insane! In my office we don't charge patients for battery door replacements only people who purchased elsewhere, and we charge $7.50!

Most of the time the door of the units are on location. If ANY part of the FACEPLATE (where the battery door attaches) is cracked, or will not hold a replacement door with the pin, the entire FACEPLATE has to be replaced, including the Microphones, Contacts, wiring, and anything else attached to it on the inside.

Unfortunately, the Manufacturers won't give those replacement parts out for free, especially when the hearing aid is more than 5 years old. (The parts are much harder to obtain as technology improves)

A battery door, if like Larry says the pin is broke, the battery door just snaps on, but if the pin is broke a new faceplate does have to be replaced with said pin in it. But for the most part most companys have extra doors right in the office. It's a quick fix.
